Waters move, things change, I'm sure they change

Today It's So Beautiful Outside; Inside It's Grey and Rainy. However, there are Edu Lobo and Chico Buarque de Hollanda

Okay, nobody loves a loser. 179,999,000 + 1 person, me, mourn for what could have been and was not, quoting poet Manuel Bandeira's Pneumotórax. A friend, a Brazilian, who loves music but not the sport of the masses asked me, "Do you think they had the obligation to win? Can't someone else have a chance, too?"

These questions are similar to asking the wife of a gourgeous-looking actor if she thinks he should get first digs for a part always or be hers exclusively. The answer to both questions is "Yes!"

Why could the Brazilian team have an excuse for not winning? All the boys do in Brazil, especially the poorer ones, is play futebol. Would any Dream Team have an excuse not to win for the USA in basketball ? Awww, c'mon, get real!

The ghosts of great philosophers of futebol are somewhat miffed. The nation in futebol shoes is glum. So many thousands of miles away, I cannot help but cry, every now and again.

Every man is an island. I wish mine were not desolate

In the mood of this sadness, I would like to recommend music by Chico Buarque de Hollanda, who sometimes co-writes songs with my  Edu Lobo. iTunes has nothing to offer by either one, except a very old record by Edu Lobo, promoted by Sergio Mendes.

Chico Buarque is very much a darling of any Brazilian woman of any age, and I can generalize in this case. His green eyes, wow, his sensitivity when writing as a woman in first person, the colossal œuvre he has composed over the years make him everyone's darling in Brazil and in Europe, and Mr. Unknown in the USA.

Chico has written songs with Vinicius de Moraes, the diplomat who wrote the lyrics to Jobim's Garota de Ipanema. Edu and Chico wrote songs for many plays. Chico had to write under an alias, actually, more than one, during the glorious days of the Redeemer Regime (1964-85.) He fled to Italy for a while. Chico has written with Tom Jobim. Please, Steve Jobs, some Chico Buarque de Hollanda and some Edu Lobo in iTunes, pretty please,

If you want to give them a shot without waiting for Steve Jobs, amazon.com has some of their catalogue available. For Edu, try Limite das Águas written and recorded here in Los Angeles. For Chico Buarque de Hollanda, unfortunately, either try a friend or a Z-shop. It seems he's as unavailable to Americans as the truth about the sex of angels. Edit: Search Chico Buarque on amazon.com

The public awaits so impatiently the arrival of a shipping of Edu and Chico's CDs

In time I will review Chico and Edu's œuvres in more detail. In the aftermath of yesterday's match, they seem to be the perfect background to my trisiteza

"Construcao" (Chico Buarque) and other albums are at Amazon - I think they just don't understand accent marks.

This is the only Chico album I currently own, though there are a few songs on the David Bryne Brazilian compilation albums.

Speaking of Tom Jobin, I also have this album that I like very much:
Tom Jobim

I shall go listen to these right now.

Construção was a very political album. Tom Jobim, or Matita Perê was a remarkable change in Tom's career, towards a cerebral yet lyrical trip to the land of diplomat and writer Guimarães Rosa, whose regional flavor and creativity with words made him a must-read in the 60s.

I searched for Chico's full name. Duh-huh!
