What on Earth Happened to this Blog?
The explanation is simple and embarassing. I lost both the username and password to access this blog. And when I followed the instructions Blogger sent me, I found another blog I have no recollection of having ever created. Here comes the post, though. And a daily one from today on.
Today is Saturday --
In memory of Vinicius de Moraes
Today is Saturday. It's a holy day in Rio de Janeiro for all hedonists. Husbands leave behind the billiards and go out with their wives, to the film the women choose. Anything to make missus happy on a Saturday or he shall starve on Sunday.
Cinemas, bars, nightclubs, theaters, all full on Saturday night. After the cultural feeding, the restaurant. A Chinese, a Japanese, an Italian, sea food, churrascaria, Saturdays are the days of the week when women have their say.
On Sunday, he eats like the pig he is, sits in front of the TV and watches soccer. Shouts, cusses, bangs his fists on the coffee table. That is called exercise.
On Sunday, she has no maid, some of the food is pre-made, but alas! The dishes must be done. Despite the fact she has told him for ever and ever she comes from a family where the ladies don't do dishes, he won't get up from the couch, his bed once he's loaded with beer and angry enough at his soccer team.
The sun is setting behind the mountains to the southwest of Ipanema beach. He snores, she swears deep inside she will make herself precious come next Saturday...
She can always check herself in at the hotel nearby. She can... She won't.
